This period was the true beginnings of Leon’s passion for painting. Before this time he was a keen drawer and dabbled with painting, but during these years he admits he locked himself away for many hours and long nights on end to discover his passion for paint and the coastal landscape subject where he lived: that being the North Beach coast-line of Perth, Western Australia. In 2003 Leon held his first solo exhibition in a beach side shack in the same area. A humbling number of guests visited the show over two weekends and this encouraged the making of the artist today. Leon resigned from his career as an advertising art director and took up painting full time.
