Paintings and drawings from Tuscany

A week in the small lofted village of Lucignano in Tuscany provided endless inspiration for my brush and me. I would like to thank, highly accomplished Australian painter and friend Kasey Sealy for the invitation to join him.
Lots of painting, drawing and drinking wine with like minded friends made for a week to always remember!

MeTuscany3B+W Painting on the streets in the quiet little medieval village of Lucignano. It was a perfect Tuscany setting and the lack of tourism made it a great place to paint. While painting this piece an old nun shuffled slowly up the street giving me plenty of time to add her to the scene.

LucinanoBarsketch1WB I am always carrying my sketch book around. I draw in the cafes and mostly on the underground.
Kasey, Ben Long (another very talented artist) and I spent the evenings in the bar studying the people. Ben’s head study drawings where inspirational. And he taught me a thing or two which I am always grateful for.

LucignanoBarSketch2WB The men at the bar made great subjects. They were all playing cards and they seemed to just sit there mesmerized in one spot, unaware that we were even there drawing them.

SKetchFigures2 The figure sketch in the middle was used in the painting ‘Whispering walls of Lucignano’. I don’t often add figures or make changes to my works back in the studio. The painting already had a figure in it, however it needed a little work and this drawing reminded me of the original woman I saw in the street.
